Cognir is not a note-taking app. It is a system built around a single conviction: understanding is not the same as storage — and most tools confuse the two.
Cognir is a private, browser-based reading and thinking environment. You write in it, you read in it, you annotate
in it — and then AI helps you surface the structure of your own thinking as a navigable
3D knowledge map.
The Zettelkasten at its core is not a new idea. Scholars have used slip-box systems for centuries
to build dense, connected knowledge over time. Cognir brings that methodology into a single tool,
accelerated by AI and stripped of everything that gets in the way of thinking.
Cognir is built under the Arquantian label — a personal engineering project focused on tools that augment human thinking rather than replace it. Arquantian systems are characterised by three constraints: they must run locally, they must cost nothing to use, and they must do one thing exceptionally well.
Cognir does not collect any data. There is no analytics script, no telemetry, no account system.
Your notes are stored in your browser's IndexedDB — a high-capacity local database
that only your browser can read. When you use AI features, text is sent directly from your browser
to your chosen AI provider (Groq, Anthropic, OpenAI, or Gemini) using your own API key.
No intermediary server sees your data.
If you clear your browser data, your notes will be deleted. Use Data Backup
in Settings (⚙) to export a JSON copy of everything regularly.
For questions, bug reports, feature ideas, or anything else — reach out directly. Cognir is actively developed and feedback genuinely shapes what gets built next.
